Well, I actually had something written and maybe I’m not going to write it any more. I had something titled “Writing About Art Briles is Stupid” and I’m not publishing it right now. Yesterday, a Baylor grad paid a law firm to come up with some reasons why they don’t think that Art Briles did anything wrong while at Baylor. It was maybe done so that he could become a head coach again. Here’s the link.

It’s stupid that I’m having to write about this because hiring Art Briles is a stupid idea.

In my mind there are 3 possibilities and would love someone to workshop this.

1. Briles knew about the sexual assaults and did nothing about them (like at the very least send multiple emails, texts, notifications, alerting people of a problem). If this is true, then that speaks for itself.

2. Briles knew about the sexual assaults and did something about them. If this is true, then there should be a trail of emails, texts, and notifications where Briles notified people of the issue (it has been 5 years and have not seen these).

3. Briles did not know about the sexual assaults. If this is true then there was absolutely no institutional control. Based on this article, this option 3 isn’t a possibility, but even if it is, it is not good.

I am so frustrated that this is even a possibility. And I think it is stupid that this was the plan and this was the “exculpatory evidence” that this would “exonerate” Briles. Air quotes for all of this shit. A biased report paid for by a Baylor alumnus that comes to a solution based on an opinion? I never would have guessed it would favor Briles. For some reason, I thought there would be actual evidence submitted, but it wasn’t.

Stupid.

The football facility had to close because of a COVID outbreak, including 9 staff members who have tested positive. For the football program to make it through the season is nothing short of amazing and if you wanted to give Matt Wells credit for anything this year, give him credit for getting through this season.

Here are some tweets.
