Podcasts. Check out your guys, Spencer and Michael, on 23 Personnel Podcast, a Texas Tech athletics podcast where food and sports clash at the goal line, as well as Keith Patrick and Dinger Derby, the only, yes only, podcast about Texas Tech baseball.

I did not have time to watch all of the press conferences yesterday, just too much to watch and not enough time. Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes about TCU quarterback Max Duggan, who is a threat to run the ball:

“I think he probably runs it as good as any quarterback in this league,” Tech coach Matt Wells said. “Quarterback draw. Zone read. Q (quarterback) power. The power off the speed-sweep read, which (are the plays referenced against Baylor) looks like he’s just going right up the middle, but it’s (quarterback) power with a speed-sweep fake.

“They do quite a bit, and so you’ve got a lot of run variances with the Q (quarterback) run game, and there’s things they can do with him. Whatever it is, that guy and his feet and his elusiveness, his toughness, his straight-ahead speed, opens up a lot of possibilities for the offensive staff.”

Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams summarize a bit of the press conferences, namely that defensive coordinator Keith Patterson had to scramble to replace Tony Bradford, Jr., who was injured in pre-game warm-ups, as well as not having Krishon Merriweather, who they knew would not be available for the game:

“There are definitely differences and with each individual player,” Patterson said. “For linebackers, it’s a subtle thing. Fitting off of Tony Bradford is different than fitting off of Philip Blidi, just because of experience. You kind of get a feel for knowing where Tony’s going to be, knowing how Tony’s going to play (double teams) and play combination blocks.

“It’s different fitting off Tyree than it is fitting off of Eli. So the fewer moving parts that you have, the easier it makes it for run fits to stay tight, for linebackers to know where to fit and how to fit off the guy in front of him. And if that’s constantly changing, the run fits get just a little bit loose.”

The other injury news is that RB SaRodorick Thompson, OG Weston Wright, and DT Tony Bradford, Jr. are all day-to-day. Also, there are no current players with COVID-19, all players are recovered.

ESPN has a look at the Big 12 and from reading this, this is basically about Baylor reloading and Texas trying to get up to the level of Baylor, with Iowa State right there as well. At the end, they predict the order of finish and the writers pick Texas Tech 7th, 4th, and 8th, so I think that there’s room to finish in the top half of the conference or the back end as well.
