I had not seen this reported anywhere. Sportico’s Eben Novy-Williams reports that the athletic department borrowed a shade over $1 million from the University system:
The Texas Tech Red Raiders just took one of those, a relatively small sum of $1,055,000, borrowed from the Texas Tech University System at a rate of 3%. It’s unclear exactly what the loan was used for, or the length of time the athletic department has to pay it back—it was divulged in an open records request but university officials declined to provide any more details.
I’m thinking that details should be provided here so I don’t know how they can deny that, I’m thinking that the actual loan document would be available, but I’ve also never done an open records request.
Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams writes about Troy Te’o, who received snaps last week with Nick McCann out, and I had no idea that Te’o is originally from Australia:
In an American culture that puts football on a pedestal, being a powerful dude has helped Te’o find his way. He was born and spent most of his childhood in Brisbane, capital of the Australian state of Queensland. The coastal city is third-largest in Australia, with a population of about 2.5 million.
Being uprooted and dropped in West Texas, Te’o called “a huge culture shock.”
“I didn’t enjoy it at first,” he said. “I wanted to go back many times, but over time I decided to play football and became interested, and now Lubbock’s like my new home.”
Te’o said his father, born in Auckland, New Zealand, works for the City of Lubbock on architectural projects. His mother, a native of Seattle, is a dispatcher for a local plumbing, heating and cooling company.
The immediate family of six, including Troy’s two brothers and little sister, are all here.
“My whole family, we have dual citizenship,” Te’o said. “They just never thought about going back to Australia, just because my parents bought a house here in Lubbock.”
