Inside The Red Raiders’ Jarrett Johnson spoke with Smith about his commitment:
Inside the Red Raiders: First off, congrats again on your commitment. How did you tell the coaches you were committing and what was their reaction?
Isaac Smith: I FaceTimed them to tell them. it was an awesome thing to tell, obviously excitement is high especially when your whole family is involved in making a huge decision. But getting everyone in a room and announcing it to the whole family and the coaches at the same time it’s just a crazy feeling. The coaches were super excited and it was awesome!
Also noted in the article is that Smith runs a 50.52 in the 400m.
A huge frame to grow into and hardly any offer list at all. We’ve gone from the last two commits having an offer list going 20 deep to Smith who has an offer list of 2. That’s the downside of playing in Oklahoma or West Texas, where you just don’t get seen as much as you would in another place. Smith’s frame is long and lean, very vast for his size, darn near quick-twitch for a guy that’s 6’5″ or 6’6″. The strength will come, but the height is something that doesn’t come around very often in conjunction with that sort of athleticism. This is the sort of projectable athlete that could hopefully develop into a terrific edge rusher
