Podcasts. Check out your guys, Spencer and Michael, on 23 Personnel Podcast, a Texas Tech athletics podcast where food and sports clash at the goal line, as well as Keith Patrick and Dinger Derby, the only, yes only, podcast about Texas Tech baseball.

This is going to be an incredibly quick Morning Stake. Had to finish the preview which will be forthcoming, as will the recruiting profile on Texas Tech’s newest commit, running back Cam’Ron Valdez. Will I miss some links? Probably. Only so much time in the day.

Would you like some previews or articles? Good.

* Dallas Morning News’ Chuck Carlton: Texas Tech QB Henry Colombi looks to ‘keep working’ to jumpstart flailing Red Raider offense in his first start

Colombi will be facing the nation’s top-ranked defense, a physical unit led by brothers Darius and Dante Stills that is allowing just 240.3 yards per game.

“He’s smart. He’s fairly analytical,” Wells said on his radio show after making the decision. “He’s quiet, he has a quiet confidence about him. … That’s what I’ll encourage him to do is grow through your progressions, see what you see, trust what you see, let it rip.”

* AthlonSports’ Nicholas Ian Allen: West Virginia vs. Texas Tech Football Prediction and Preview

In terms of traditional statistics, West Virginia has the best defense in college football. The Mountaineers have allowed just 240.3 total yards per game and 4.05 yards per play, both of which are the best in FBS to date. Digging deeper, those numbers hold up pretty well. WVU ranks fifth nationally in Expected Points Added per play (-0.256) and second in success rate allowed (26.1 percent), in non-garbage plays versus FBS opponents, according to cfb-graphs.com. West Virginia has been phenomenal on early downs, holding opponents to 4.043 yards per play and a 24.1 percent success rate in that sample, both of which rank second nationally. On third down, opponents have averaged -0.555 EPA per pass attempt — best in the country.

West Virginia has a chance to surpass their team rushing output from the entire 2019 season on Saturday. In four games, the Mountaineers have rushed for 757 yards. They amassed 879 yards in 12 games last season.

“We’ve got to have some answers in our run game off some of the ways that people are starting to defend us,” Brown said. “I am not ready to sit up here and announce we have arrived. I think Leddie has shown early through three league games that he is a really good player. I think we blocked movement against Kansas better than any game we have in the last two years.

“I think these next four weeks will tell the tale. Ask me in a month and I will have a much better answer for you. We are definitely better.”

Texas Tech and United Supermarkets announced they would extend their naming rights agreement through 2035:

Texas Tech will receive an additional $16 million over the course of the agreement, which continues the long-standing partnership between the university and United Supermarkets. The West Texas-based chain has now committed more than $30 million to Texas Tech Athletics since securing the original naming rights to the 15,000-seat arena in 1996.

“Texas Tech and United Supermarkets go hand-in-hand, so we couldn’t be more excited to announce this naming rights extension,” Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “United Supermarkets Arena remains one of the premier basketball facilities in the country and that’s thanks in part to such a loyal and trusted partner in United. We can’t thank United enough for its continued support of this athletics program and our more than 400 student-athletes.”

This was a pretty fun fireside chat with head coach Chris Beard and guard Kyler Edwards.
