I don’t know if I have the energy for this. That sounds incredibly callous, but this is not going to be fun to follow and I’m not looking forward to it at all. I’d also state that I’m biased as I tend to believe Brittany Brewer, Sydney Goodson, Mia Casteneda, Emma Merriweather, Marcella LaMark, and all of the former players at Minnesota. It’s incredibly simplistic for me to think this way, but there’s just too many former players.
Avalanche Journal’s Gabriel Monte details the lawsuit that former Lady Raider basketball head coach has filed against Texas Tech. I’m not totally sure as to the defendants, it could just be Texas Tech, but she could have included other defendants including Hocutt individually and others. I’m just not sure. There’s a whole laundry list of reasons for the lawsuit and the damages. I’m not going to totally get into because I simply don’t have to totally get into a lawsuit. Regardless, the links is there if you’d like to read it.
Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes about West Virginia linebacker Tony Fields, who was a teammate with Texas Tech linebacker Colin Schooler at Arizona, about how he had ended Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman’s 2019 season and hates seeing him down again:
“For sure, you never want to see anybody get hurt playing this game,” Fields said Tuesday. “It’s a very dangerous game, and throughout the football season it’s a lot of injuries, a lot of bumps and bruises people go through, and seeing him go through that injury, which was a season-ending injury, was very sad.
“I mean, I wouldn’t want to end my season on an injury. So seeing anybody else go through it, you always cringe as another football player.”
Additionally, some of the Texas Tech players also spoke today, including guard Weston Wright, who spoke about containing that West Virginia defense:
“You’ve got to give these guys credit,” Tech guard Weston Wright said. “They have a heck of a D-line. They attack constantly. They never quit, and they’re great with taking that initiative a lot of other D-linemen don’t have as far as chasing gaps to go through if they see an empty one.”
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello ranked the top newcomers, which includes freshmen and transfers. Nimari Burnett is at #28, Marcus Santos-Silva is at #37, and Joel Ntambwe is at #41.
28. Nimari Burnett, Texas Tech (freshman): At times last season, the Red Raiders struggled to create offense. Burnett should help in that area. He can play on or off the ball.
37. Marcus Santos-Silva, Texas Tech (transfer): Wide-bodied post player should start down low this season for the Red Raiders. Efficient scorer averaged 12.8 points and 8.9 rebounds at VCU.
41. Joel Ntambwe, Texas Tech (transfer): Ntambwe consistently impressed onlookers in practice during his sit-out season, and his size and skill set is intriguing. Averaged 11.8 points as a freshman at UNLV.
Borzello notes that Mac McClung would be included, but has not yet received his waiver. In other Big 12 news, Silvio de Sousa has opted out of the season and that leaves the Kansas frontcourt pretty thin. No one is feeling sorry for Kansas.
