Head coach Matt Wells announced a “Wreck’Em” during the morning yesterday and the Texas Tech football Twitter account announced that Texas A&M defensive end Tyree Wilson is transferring (or has transferred) to Texas Tech.
We’ve got a BIG addition to the defensive line.

Wilson (6’6″/260) is from West Rusk in New London, Texas, was a high 3-star recruit in the 2018 class. Wilson redshirted the 2018 year and then in 2019 he played in all 12 games, where he registered 12 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and a quarterback hurry. Wilson will have 3 years of eligibility remaining and is applying for a waiver to be eligible this year. If he isn’t, then he’ll have two years of eligibility.
If you are keeping track, Wilson is the 5th transfer from a Power 5 team:
Power 5 Transfers
1. LSU safety Eric Monroe (5-11/209)
2. Alabama running back Chadarius Townsend (6-0/194)
3. Duke linebacker Jacob Morgenstern (6-3/210)
4. Michigan State linebacker Brandon Boyer-Randle (6-2/230)
5. Texas A&M defensive end Tyree Wilson (6-6/260)
JUCO Transfers
1. Garden City C.C. linebacker Krishon Merriweather (6-0/225)
2. Coffeyville C.C. offensive lineman Ethan Carde (6-8/320)
3. Iowa Western C.C. defensive end Devin Drew (6-2/285)
4. Northeast Oklahoma A&M defensive back Cameron Watts (6-0/175)
5. College of San Mateo tight end Jason Lloyd (6-4/245)
6. Northwest Mississippi C.C. safety Cameron White (6-1/194)
You see a pattern? I think that Wells is trying to find a market efficiency and really looking at something else other than just recruiting high school players. I’ve said it once and will say it again, that this is Beard-like in how Wells is trying to add talent in just about any form possible, from Power 5 transfers to JUCO guys to high schools. This is not a one-stop shop.
