Red Raider Sports’ Matt Clare talked to Esters about his commitment:
Why Texas Tech, why now?: “Texas Tech feels like a family to me, and the energy I get from the Tech coaching staff is the same energy I get from my coaches at Cedar Hill. I feel it is just the right fit for me.
“It was a few days ago, I just realized that I wanted to be at Texas Tech. Being at home during the quarantine helped me think about it and talk with my family about it over dinner. We all talked and they agreed that it was the right place for me.”
Esters probably doesn’t have the quickest first step, but physically he is dominant. If I had to guess, the reason he’s not a top 100 Texas player (he’s 113th overall) is that he’s just a half a step slow coming off of the line of scrimmage. But he does a really good job of getting to the quarterback, he’s relentless and that’s a good thing. I should also mention that Esters is in that South Dallas area, south of the 635 loop and that’s former assistant coach Emmett Jones kneck of the woods (former head coach at South Oak Cliff). As you’ll note, Kansas had offered Esters and if there’s anyone that knows that area, it’s Jones. I’d also add that new secondary coach Derek Jones was Esters primary recruiter along with Paul Randolph.
