Texas Tech announced that they have signed Wofford graduate transfer offensive lineman Josh Burger (6-4/290):
Burger was utilized primarily at right tackle for the Terriers, who were among the top FCS programs in the country throughout his tenure. Wofford claimed the Southern Conference title in each of Burger’s three seasons, finishing 10-3 overall in 2017, 9-4 in 2018 and then 8-4 this past season.
Burger, a native of Aurora, Ohio, led the Terriers with 109 knockdown blocks in 2018, eventually collecting Sophomore All-America accolades from Hero Sports. He closed his Wofford career with 292 knockdowns overall after being credited with 115 this past season and then 68 as a redshirt freshman in 2017.
Since a kid I have always dreamed of playing for a program such as Texas Tech… Today I turn that dream into a reality and I could not be more excited to announce my commitment to Texas Tech University! pic.twitter.com/FbSWgVaWk0

Avalanche-Journal’s Carlos Silva, Jr., RedRaiderSports’ Matt Clare, and Inside The Red Raiders’ Jarrett Johnson all have articles about Burger’s commitment. This is from the Clare article:
“They were really the first team that believed in me and that means a lot as a kid that was under-recruited,” Burger said. “Wofford was that school out of high school, and it means a lot when people overlook you. I was too small, too slow for D1 and now I belong and I have to prove it all over again.
“I actually told the Texas Tech coaches earlier today, I told them that I was going to commit. I called Coach Farmer, Coach Yost and Coach Wells. I let them have the news and they were all pumped up, excited for me to join the program. I had that gut feeling and Texas Tech was the place for me.
“It really helped that Coach Farmer, Coach Yost and Coach Wells have been great to me. They reached out and showed support, it was just awesome. It meant a lot to me, and I think with the football and academics, it will work out for me.”
The coaching staff wants Burger to maybe play left tackle. I haven’t been able to see any video of Burger, but at the very least, this is some significant depth for a team that did lose both tackles. I think this makes your team better and the biggest thing is that the size of Burger may be an issue.
