Georgia Southern will hire Texas Tech assistant Brian Burg, source told @stadium. Absolute home run hire for new athletic director Jared Benko. Absolute grinder who has been a big part of Chris Beard’s success over last few years.

Burg has been instrumental in head coach Chris Beard’s success, joining Beard at Little Rock and then following Beard to Lubbock. Burg was oftentimes right next to Beard on the bench, Mark Adams on one side and Burg on the other. Burg was a tireless recruiter for Texas Tech and has been one of the constants with Beard as part of Texas Tech’s program.
I did want to mention that the follow up tweet from Goodman’s tweet is this.
Sources told me that Chris Beard has already received texts from more than 100 coaches trying to get Burg’s spot on the staff. https://t.co/LSO3mDrRNg

That’s Beard telling Goodman that he’s already had 100 texts from coaches who want the job and that’s a good thing. Sean Sutton is obviously a candidate as well, but I’d also guess that Beard and Sean may like their situation, where an assistant coach has to be a dogged recruiter and an “advisor” (which is what Sutton is listed as in terms of job title) may help more with on the floor coaching and game management, but doesn’t have the recruiting responsibilities.
Congrats to Coach Burg on the new opportunity and I’m guessing that he will be every bit as successful as he was at Texas Tech.
