Update on Game-Watching. So yesterday I noticed that Blue Light in Dallas where I was supposed to be for the Kentucky vs. Texas Tech game, but noticed that their doors don’t even open until 6:00 p.m. and there is also a Rage Against Machine cover band that is supposed to play at 7:00 p.m., which could possibly cut into game-watching. If Blue Light isn’t open, then Stan’s Blue Note is going to be the back-up. There’s a chili-cook-off happening that evening, so that’s jut a bonus. The Blue Light deal was a Guns Up Nation event, so I’ll follow up with them and see what’s happening. You can follow Staking The Plains on Twitter for updates.

Haters. This is one of the best things I’ve ready thus far this year. What is a hater? What’s a fanboy? All of the answers here. Via PaulGraham:

If you become sufficiently famous, you’ll acquire some fans who like you too much. These people are sometimes called “fanboys,” and although I dislike that term, I’m going to have to use it here. We need some word for them, because this is a distinct phenomenon from someone simply liking your work.

A fanboy is obsessive and uncritical. Liking you becomes part of their identity, and they create an image of you in their own head that is much better than reality. Everything you do is good, because you do it. If you do something bad, they find a way to see it as good. And their love for you is not, usually, a quiet, private one. They want everyone to know how great you are.

Well, you may be thinking, I could do without this kind of obsessive fan, but I know there are all kinds of people in the world, and if this is the worst consequence of fame, that’s not so bad.

Unfortunately that is not the worst consequence of fame. As well as fanboys, you’ll have haters.

A hater is obsessive and uncritical. Disliking you becomes part of their identity, and they create an image of you in their own head that is much worse than reality. Everything you do is bad, because you do it. If you do something good, they find a way to see it as bad. And their dislike for you is not, usually, a quiet, private one. They want everyone to know how awful you are.

If you’re thinking of checking, I’ll save you the trouble. The second and fifth paragraphs are identical except for “good” being switched to “bad” and so on.

It’s a Big Game. Well, maybe one of the games of the year is nearly here. Dan is going to be here later this morning with a special Q&A and I’ll have my normal preview and game day thread tomorrow.

Nimari Burnett Named McDonald’s All-American. Nimari Burnett is Texas Tech’s first McDonald’s All-American and the McDonald’s All-American game is on April 1st in Houston at the Toyota Center, so those of you who are Houston folks can go to the game.

Washington Works the All-Star Circuit.

Recruiting. Coaches are out and about recruiting and the second National Signing Day is set for February 5th. I also think this is a big weekend as Texas Tech commit Behren Morton is going to be in town as I think a lot of other juniors.
