So Many Thoughts. So Little Time. Hey! I’m back from Lubbock. Walked through my door where I stay at around 3:00 p.m. and had a great time. I slept on the floor for 2 nights, which is something I haven’t done in a while, so I didn’t get a ton of sleep, but was crazy grateful to have some shelter and a place to lay my head. The group that I always travel with has kids in-and-around the same ages as my kids. We’ve discovered that the parking lots out by the John Walker Soccer Complex is tailor made for kids to go absolutely crazy and they’re most likely not going to bother anyone. Which is exactly what happened. The kids had a great time (I think).

Arrived Friday evening, went straight to Spanky’s. They were slammed, ordered a chicken sandwhich that never arrived, but when I told someone that my kids’ meals had not arrived, the host made sure that he got those to them ASAP and that was great as well.

I woke up early on Saturday morning an went for a 5 mile run through campus. It’s one of the favorite things that I do and it was a bit chilly to start off with, it was still great. I left around 6:15 so that I’d maybe get the sun rising when I made my way around Memorial Circle, which I did. Snapped a few pictures, tagged the football and official site and ended up having a very popular tweet.

We made breakfast, went to the game, and we stayed to the end. I’ve pretty much stayed off of all social media, including my own site, for the entire weekend. After the game, Spencer and Michael made their way to where we were parked and was able to chat with them for half an hour. It was great to see them and told them that I’m so thankful that they do what they do.

We had a fire pit at the 5th wheel and I think we went through 7 packs of wood (had to buy some at United!) and that made Saturday evening especially enjoyable. There’s something communal about hanging out by a fire and just talking. I went to sleep earlier than most everyone else (which is par for the course BTW), I don’t even remember when. We woke up the next morning, went to the Pancake House, and I think we left around 9:00 a.m. (which makes sense as it was a 6 hour trip home).

I don’t know if I’ll get the “First Look . . . ” post done this morning. I wasn’t even going to try to do 10 Things on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, mostly because I had no internet and it just wasn’t feasible when I got home. I can say that my emotional investment in this program on a weekend like this is less about wins or losses and more about being where my feet are. Enjoying the moment and hopefully creating memories with my kids. I’m probably speaking for the minority of people and don’t get me wrong, winning is fun and good, but huge planned out weekends like this aren’t predicated on the win-loss record. Maybe they will be at one point, but that’s not how I feel right now.Β I know, I’m getting soft in my old age.
