Weekend at Lake Ouachita. Spent the weekend away at Lake Ouachita in Arkansas (and of course, I’m falling behind yet again) to do the fishing and things like that with family and kids. The kids caught a few blue gill and one of the guys I was with caught a couple of catfish, but nothing significant. The water was ridiculously warm and we didn’t know the lake and wasn’t sure how or what or where to fish for. I’m not a fisherman, so I didn’t have a flipping clue, I was just happy to be outside.
Regardless, it’s always neat to consider that there’s a national forest, the Ouachita National Forest, just 5 hours away. Absolutely love the foothill mountains and as you look out, it’s really pretty spectacular. The best part was that the weather was maybe 87 degrees and sunny on Saturday. Absolutely perfect and was quite happy to NOT be in 90+ degree temps in the DFW.

Best in Texas. DMN’s Scott Bell ranks the state of Texas college football programs and Texas leads the way, then TAMU, SMU, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech ahead of North Texas. Waiting for people to be upset that Texas Tech did not hire Sonny Dykes.
OU’s Davis to Play Starter Snaps. Norman Transcript’s Tyler Palmateer writes about freshman cornerback Jaden Davis who is a part-time starter for the Sooners according to Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, but was more interested in how OU is employing the defensive backs:
OU is utilizing more aggressive coverage, which doesn’t always mean pressing the line of scrimmage. But sometimes it does, Grinch said, adding that “smart aggression” is always the preferred method.
However the Sooners are covering wide receivers, Davis seems to understand it. Grinch wishes there were three more of him.
“I wish we could play five [corners],” Grinch said. “Jordan Parker has played some, kind of mentioned that fourth corner and I wish it was a fifth or sixth. That’s a tall order to go out there and go play aggressive coverage on a receiver in this day and age and it requires a unique skillset, a unique mindset.”
