Leading Off
Huge Congrats to Grimes and Hall. I don’t want this to get washed out, but huge congrats to Norman Grimes who ran a personal best, which broke his own record, at the US Championships on Saturday just missing going going to the world championships (I think) and Justin Hall for finishing 7th overall in the long jump. Both athletes are still students so they’re out there competing against older competition and are still in school. Charles Brown also competed in the long jump but didn’t make the finals. There were more student-athletes competing that you can check out at the links below.

Big 12 Round Up. 24/7 Sports Kevin Flaherty has a way too early look at the Big 12 and there’s a handful of things there to read as well as a top 5, which includes Texas Tech at #2:
Texas Tech coach Chris Beard brought back just one starter from his 2017-18 team that went to the Elite Eight. But that starter (Jarrett Culver) turned into an All-American in his second season and graduate transfers Matt Mooney and Tariq Owens filled out a roster that won a share of the Big 12 title and went all the way to the national title game, falling in overtime. Davide Moretti is the lone returning starter this go-round, though the sniping outside shooter is joined by a player who could become a star in his second year much the same way Culver did in Kyler Edwards. Graduate transfers T.J. Holyfield β a big man who can stretch the floor β and Chris Clarke β a versatile wing who can create for teammates, rebound and defend β seem to fit the mold perfectly. And freshman Jahmius Ramsey should hit the ground running as one of the Big 12’s best players. Of course, the biggest returner is Beard and assistant Mark Adams, who together built the top defense in the nation last year. That’s a cultural thing within the program that should continue to hold steady even as the personnel cycles through.

Preseason Top 25. The NCAA released their preseason top 25 if you’re looking for some #content. Texas is at #9 and Oklahoma is at #5 for your top Big 12 teams.
Miscellaneous . . . via ESPN, the Tampa Bay Bucs have signed Vinny Testaverde, Jr. who had that one start against Texas while playing for Texas Tech, then transferred to Miami (where his father played) and then ended up at Albany. What a blast from the past . . .
