ULM Receiver Reginald Turner II to Transfer to Texas Tech

Texas Tech has yet another transfer incoming, this time University Louisiana-Monroe receiver RJ Turner (6-2/204) (have also seen him listed at Reginald Turner, II) will transfer to Texas Tech. Last year, Turner had 36 catches for 526 yards and 1 touchdown, which averages to about 14 yards a catch. Turner was second on the team for the Warhawks in receptions and yards.

I picked the Ole Miss game since he seemed to do well in that game and he had 5 catches and there would be video. He makes 2 nice catches right out of the chute, both are just pretty simple post patterns. From a yardage perspective, this was by far Turner’s best game. I think that Turner definitely blocks down the field, I get the impression that ULM was maybe a pretty heavy running team. I don’t see turner getting off quick at the line of scrimmage. He also makes a nice catch in coverage at about the 3:20 mark. Turner makes his final nice grab at the 4:25 mark.

Just like a lot of transfers, Turner is most likely depth at one of the receiver spots, most likely outside receiver. When we did the receiver scholarship eligibility chart I noted that there is very little experience. Seth Collins, T.J. Vasher, and McLane Mannix were the only upperclassmen in terms of receivers, all of the other receivers were sophomores or younger. I think the other aspect for me is that this is a one-year stop-gap, whereas three of the transfers, Mannix, cornerback Zech McPhearson, and linebacker Evan Rambo are at least two-year options, while Turner and running back Armand Shyne are one year options.
