Got plans on Saturday night?
Texas Tech plays Michigan State in the Final Four (still doesn’t get old to say) at 7:45 PM, and I can think of no better excuse to get out of the house and go make some new friends. Unless you’re a stress watcher that prefers to be alone, which I sympathize with, or if you are bad luck when you watch the basketball team, which I empathize with as I am cursed this way. Regardless! We here at your favorite little Texas Tech blog wanted to give y’all a place to help plan your evenings this weekend. We’ll be listing a selection of Alumni Association watch parties here, but, more importantly, we wanted to give y’all a space to talk about your plans and give suggestions on the best places to watch the game in the cities where you stay. Don’t live in Texas? We definitely want to hear what you’re up to!
AUSTIN
Alumni Watch Party
B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub
1905 Aldrich St, Suite 130,
Austin, TX 78723
Comments: Expect this to be packed, as apparently it was during the previous games this tournament. They also have a location on Dirty 6th.
Alumni Watch Party
Rentsch Brewery
2500 NE Inner Loop
Georgetown, TX 78626
Comments: So this is technically in Georgetown but I wanted to mention it anyway because it’s at Rentsch Brewery. Go to Rentsch Brewery.
Tech Friendly Bar
The Park @ The Domain
11601 Domain Dr
Austin, TX 78758
Comments: Who DOESN’T like to drink at the bottom of a chain hotel? This one is pretty far north in Austin, but it seems like they may also be hosting an Alumni Association event as well
DALLAS
Alumni Watch Parties:
High Fives
1804 McMillan Ave
Dallas, TX 75206
Stan’s Blue Note
2908 Greenville Ave
Dallas, TX 75206
Comments: Both of these are very close to each other, but I’ve heard good things about both. Either way, you are in striking distance of other quality bars for celebrating or commiserating after the game, so don’t worry about making it to that church service Sunday morning. There are also TTUAA events in Addison, Frisco, Irving, The Colony, Rockwall, & McKinney, but I’m lazy and already gave you a link to the watch parties. What more do you want from me.
EL PASO
Alumni Watch Party:
Brass Monkey
3233 N. Mesa St.
El Paso, TX 79902
Comments: These cats do Loteria on Thursdays so you should be going to this bar regularly anyway
FORT WORTH
Alumni Watch Party:
Chimy’s
1053 Foch St.
Fort Worth, TX 76107
Reservoir
1001 Foch St
Fort Worth, TX 76107
Texas Republic
945 Foch St.
Fort Worth, TX 76107
Comments: Fort Worth coming through with 3 official watch parties. There are more Texas Tech bars in Fort Worth than fans at TCU’s football games
HOUSTON
Alumni Watch Party
The Pit
1201 Richmond #400
Houston, TX 77006
Comments: Formerly known as Jackson’s Watering Hole, the TTUA forcibly evicted the loathsome Ole Miss fans that used to frequent it a year or two back. I can only assume they also demanded it be turned into a barbecue restaurant with pretty decent food as well.
Tech Friendly Bars:
Revelry on Richmond
1613 Richmond Ave
Houston, TX 77006
Comments: A good spot with above average food and solid beer selection. It used to be very Tech friendly, and I would imagine it’s not the case. Your boy won trivia here once so I feel free to plant a Tech flag there in case the quality of crowd has decreased
Griff’s
3416 Roseland St
Houston, TX 77006
Comments: The epitome of Texas Tech sports bars. There are no other arguments. The Tech crowd is ravenous, the drinks are cheap, and getting weird is not a suggestion here so much as an inevitability. Needless to say, this is where I’ll be. Pro tip: don’t drive, cab/Uber/Lyft there.
MIDLAND
Alumni Watch Party
Mac’s BBQ
2400 W Indiana Ave
Midland, TX 79701
Comments: I’m pretty sure every unlocked door will technically be an Alumni Watch party on Saturday night in Midland so just make sure to bring a six pack of beer wherever you go because technically it’s not home invasion that way. I’m not a lawyer.
SAN ANTONIO
Alumni Watch Parties:
The Rustic at the Rim
17619 LaCantera Pkwy, Ste. 204
San Antonio, TX, 78257
Walk On’s Bistreaux and Bar
11075 IH 10 W, Bldg 2, Suite 200
San Antonio TX 78230
Comments: Two chains? One of which is really an LSU thing? At least The Rustic was started by fellow Red Raider Pat Green.
