Leading Off

I hope the positivity from the recommitments and new commit permeates to the comments this morning. I’m sure it will. I’m sure it will.

The AP released their weekly Top 25 Poll and have Texas Tech at #11 overall, moving up 2 spots. As you may remember from last year, via College Poll Tracker tracks the voters and as you may remember from last year, Graham Couch did not rank Texas Tech at all, but before you get upset, Couch doesn’t rank Tennessee, Duke or Kansas because they haven’t played anyone on another campus.

I like reading Mark Titus from The Ringer and he’s got his weekly power rankings and this is part of what he had this to say about Texas Tech, which he has at #11:

I’ll tell you how: The Red Raiders defense has picked up right where it left off, which is to say that trying to score on Texas Tech is up there with doing Sean Miller’s dry cleaning on the list of college basketball’s most miserable tasks. When you think of great defenses around the country, you likely think of the Virginia meat grinder that has been draining opponents’ will to live for years, or the Michigan brick wall that the Wolverines started building last season. But what Texas Tech has done to opposing offenses during the past 13 months is every bit as impressive.

I’m trying to catch up with commitments and recommitments, but Lamar defensive back Alex Hogan has re-affirmed his commitment to Texas Tech as does Pearland defensive end Gilbert Ibeneme. I’ll have an additional commitment post going up for Odessa Permian offensive tackle Landon Peterson

Miscellaneous . . . via Bring On The Cats, Kansas State has hired North Dakota State’s Chris Klieman (make sure and put the “i” before “e”) to replace Bill Snyder, with an annual salary of $2.3 million with $200,000 annual escalators. Klieman was 67-6 for NDSU and they were a powerhouse for the FCS Bison, but the problem is that a lot of coaches who were at the FCS level haven’t done great (former NDSU coach Craig Bohl is 28-35 for Wyoming). Most Kansas State fans aren’t too happy about this hire, a lot like Texas Tech fans, they thought there were better candidates out there and settled for someone that the AD had a prior relationship with (which he did) . . . SportsBusinessDaily has a pretty fascinating scenario, where the American Athletic Conference is asking schools to sign a grant-of-rights agreement that would lock them in the conference and as a result increase their potential television deal four times higher than what they might get . . . former running backs coach Clay McGuire has landed at Texas State along with Zac Spavital, who is the defensive coordinator, with Jake Spavital, the new head coach . . .
