Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury and the football program announced that Texas Longhorn John Bonney (6-1/200) has transferred to Texas Tech as a graduate transfer, will be immediately eligible and this will be his only year of eligibility (TexasTech).
“We’re excited to add a veteran defensive back with such experience like John,” Kingsbury said. “We will begin to get him acclimated with our team this afternoon, and I believe he’ll be a great addition to our defensive backs room.”
Bonney has played in every game for Texas the past three seasons, compiling 87 career tackles (66 solo) to go along with an interception, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and 14 pass breakups during that span. He added three tackles for a loss (1.5 sacks) from his spot in the secondary.
After possibly losing Octavious Morgan over the weekend, another body in the secondary is certainly helpful and you’d have to think that Bonney will be motivated.
