Leading Off
The softball team signed Shelby Henderson, who played at Lamar and will be eligible immediately, where Henderson hit .327 with a .573 slugging for the Cardinals (TexasTech).

Congrats to head coach Tim Tadlock for being named the 2018 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond Midwest Regional Coach of the Year (TexasTech).
This NCAA article lists 7 teams that could win the College World Series next year and as much as I love Texas Tech, it sure does seem like Texas Tech lost a lot on offense and on the mound. Maybe the most interesting offseason to date because Tadlock has to replace so many talented players.
Catcher Clay Koelzer will apparently be transferring to West Texas A&M (via @ClayKoelzer). Koelzer started 17 games and played in 24 while batting .180 last year with a fielding percentage of .978

Rivals’ Eric Bossi has a note on Kevin McCullar, who is essentially set to decide between Texas Tech, Houston and Kansas State and Bossi thinks that it will be Texas Tech, but it’s probably really close between Houston and Texas Tech.
Davide Moretti is planning on playing for the Italian National Team in July and he really has filled out quite a bit. I really think that last year was quite learning process for Moretti, but he looks filled out and I’ll be interested to see how he does in international play this summer.

And if you prefer the written word, then A-J Media’s Carlos Silva, Jr. also talked to Moretti:
“I wanted to have a bit of time to spend with my family and my friends,” Moretti said. “So I chose to stay all the way through since the season was over. … It allowed me to practice alone and then with the team for a little bit. And, now, it should be a good challenge to play for the Italian national team. And I’ll be able to get a bit of rest before I get back here before school starts.”
And thanks to your recruiting guru Michael LaBarre on the commitment of forward Joshua Mballa. Like Michael, I looked for a highlight video or stats or something that would tell me what he did last year for Putnam Science Academy and I couldn’t find a thing. Of course, I couldn’t find much of anything when Malik Ondigo was playing there last year, so maybe that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. There was thsi video posted in the comments of the National Prep Championship between Putnam Science and Northfield Mt. Hermon. Your guy Mballa is #24 and he’s starting.

One other story that I missed yesterday in my attempt to catch up was the follow up on the the dismissal of receiver Quan Shorts from EverythingLubbock and Quan didn’t just have a little bit of weed, but apparently was maybe buying and selling:
“The total weight of the marijuana found in the Furquan Shorts bedroom … was 1.35 ounces,” the seizure document said.
The document accused Shorts of selling marijuana as a cash business.
The money found in Shorts’ residence was actually $1,400 but $240 of that amount was described as “buy money” from two undercover purchases.
