Texas Tech junior wide receiver Quan Shorts was dismissed from the team following an arrest earlier today as a result of marijuana possession. The most concise report from Twitter was from KLBK’s Eric Kelly
At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, Lubbock Police officers were at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Mac Davis lane as part of an ongoing investigation. During the investigation, 21-year-old Furquan Shorts was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. He is currently charged with Possessino of a marijuana.
Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced this evening that junior wide receiver Quan Shorts has been dismissed from the program. Texas Tech will have no further comment on the matter.
Shorts was one of the players that was arrested in the spring at the Bash Riprock incident and remained on the team, and I’m guessing that Shorts probably was under a “no tolerance” policy as a result of that arrest. Kingsbury has kept players on the team before with marijuana arrests (Reginald Davis comes to mind). Either that, or something significant happened, which would surprise me given that he was essentially arrested at an apartment complex.
