Proposed Transfer Rules. CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reports that a proposal by the Big 12 would allow athletes to transfer without sitting out a season if a team is handed down a postseason ban or when a coach is fired or leaves for another team (the players could not follow the coach). That’s interesting as hell and I think it could be a game-changer, and could even make schools think twice about firing a coach. These are just proposals, nothing is finalized.

Johns as Offensive coordinator. The official site made it official as Texas Tech tabbed Western Michigan offensive coordinator Kevin Johns as the new offensive coordinator for Texas Tech. Here are your quotes from Johns and head coach Kliff Kingsbury:

Johns:

“It’s a privilege to join the staff Coach Kingsbury has assembled,” Johns said. “Texas Tech has long been known as one of the top offenses in the country, and it’s an honor to work alongside Coach Kingsbury in continuing that tradition. I’m fortunate for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”

Kingsbury:

“We’re excited to have Coach Johns join our staff,” Kingsbury said. “He has a tremendous record as one of the top offensive minds in college football, and I know he will be a great resource for our staff and players. We’d like to welcome him, his wife Krista and his three sons to Lubbock.”

Give me a weekend to put together some stats and posts and things like that and we’ll get to know what Johns will bring to the offense.

Mahomes Era to Begin. It was reported multiple places last night that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed in principal to trade quarterback Alex Smith to Washington, which means that Patrick Mahomes is about to have his day.
