Thompson would definitely qualify as a bigger back, particuarly because of his height and he seemingly has a pretty good frame to add additional weight. Thompson has this stutter and shuffle at the line of scrimmage on a handful of his highlights and I wonder if that’s somewhat of a thing where he’s adjusting to a high school offensive line where you aren’t always sure where the hole will be. Either way, I’d like to see more highlights where Thompson is really hitting the open spot as quickly as possible. What I do really like his Thompson’s ability to keep those legs going. He’s tough to bring down and he’s a load. he’s got a short stutter that knocks defenders off of where theyre’ going and despite his size, I’m a bit surprised by his burst at times. I wouldn’t have guessed that, but he he’s got somep plays where he he’s simply out-run the defense.
Thompson ran for 1,370 yards on 164 carries last year, which averages at 8.3 yards per carry, and 20 touchdowns as a senior while as a junior, he ran for 1,150 yards on 175 carries, 6.5 yards per carry for 12 touchdowns. Not a ton of receiving opportunities, only 22 catches through his career.
RedRaiderSports’ Matt Clare talked to Thompson about his visit and committing:
“It was the last part of my visit really,” Thompson said. “I was going over some of the offensive schemes with Coach Jones and some of the other coaches, then we went into Coach Kingsbury’s office for a few minutes. We talked about the visit and he told me they wanted me to join the program, join the 2018 recruiting class.
“I knew an offer might be coming, so it didn’t surprise me, but it was the moment and taking it all in. As everyone knows now, I accepted the offer and we all celebrated in Coach Kingsbury’s office.”
There’s more there, so make sure and check it out.
