National Reaction. Lots of national reaction from Texas Tech’s big win over West Virginia, breaking their 15 game winning streak. As an aside, Texas Tech is 4-1 in the Big 12, tied with West Virginia, Kansas, and Oklahoma. It’s going to be incredibly tough the entire way. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman writes about taking over for Tubby Smith:

Beard fits in Lubbock. It wasn’t that Smith hadn’t done a solid job. He took the Red Raiders to the NCAA tourney in his third season after the mess that Billy Gillispie left behind.

Smith gave the program credibility, but Beard has taken it to another level.

“Tubby left us a good base, and our first two recruiting classes have really produced and impacted the program,” Beard told ESPN on Saturday.

NCAA’s Andy Katz has what he learned about Texas Tech on Saturday:

About Texas Tech: Keenan Evans and Texas Tech are national contenders. Evans scored 20 points in the team’s 72-71 victory over West Virginia in Lubbock. The senior guard is averaging 17.3 points a game and should be given consideration for any All-Big 12 honors as well as All-American lists. The Red Raiders now own wins at Kansas and over West Virginia. Texas Tech has a great shot to have a very high seed by picking up its third win in quadrant 1. Chris Beard also strengthened his coach of the year candidacy.

CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone (who also works for Pistols Firing Blog) had Texas Tech as a winner on Saturday:

With the win, Chris Beard’s team improved to 4-1 in Big 12 play — good for a four-way tie for first place which allows them to keep pace in the toughest league in the country. It also gives them momentum to build on as they face a daunting stretch away from Lubbock that features road tilts against Texas and Iowa State over the next week.

Daboll to the Bills. Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was hired by the Buffalo Bills yesterday and it prompted David Ubben to send outthese two tweets.

Miscellaneous. Congrats to Kevin Sumlin who was recently hired for the Arizona head coaching position, that’s about a good a landing spot as he could expect and a good hire for the Wildcats . . .
