For a guy tht’s really successful, Gary Patterson is really salty. Via FWST’s Carlos Mendez, Patterson alleged that Baker Mayfield intentionally threw footballs at TCU players during warm-ups. Lincoln Riley said that TCU ran through their warm-ups and things like that happens. The player that was hit was Niko Small and he missed the next two games because of it. Patterson said that Mayfield learned that at Texas Tech:

β€œBaker played at Texas Tech and Lincoln was at Texas Tech, and I have a coach that was at Texas Tech,” Patterson said. β€œIt was common practice. There was a Texas Tech pretty well-known quarterback that hit a guy from A&M in the head, and they all thought it was funny, to throw balls and do those kinds of things, back in those days. It’s their prerogative. They can do whatever they want. We’re just not going to do them here.”

The alleged quarterback in question is Graham Harrell and according to Billy Lucci, of TexAgs fame, Harrell didn’t throw at opposing players, but he threw at the Corp of Cadets at TAMU:

As an aside, I can totally see Graham doing this.

A-J Media’s Don Williams runs through the list of bowl destinations for Texas Tech: Heart of Dallas Bowl (Dallas): Cactus Bowl (Phoenix); Texas Bowl (Houston); and Liberty Bowl (Memphis).

Yesterday, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy turned down $8 million to coach at Tennessee and now the Vols have to figure out where to go from here. I’m still surprised that Mike Leach hasn’t gotten a call or been more heavily involved in some of these coaching rumors, particularly Tennessee, but I really think that Leach is only going to work at certain programs and I don’t know if Tennessee’s AD is smart enough (given his track record with Schiano and now missing on Gundy) to make a serious push for Leach and now that Leach knows that they’re willing to go nearly $8 million for Gundy, is he going to be offended that Tennessee doesn’t go as high. Meanwhile, TAMU is waiting on Jimbo Fisher and things appear to be headed towards actually hiring him (my guess is that it happens).
