On Saturday before Texas Tech’s game with Oklahoma State, the official site announced that Texas Tech Athletics has established an endowed scholarship in honor of Luke Gonsioroski, who will be presented each year to the walk-on who best embodies the character and steadfastness of Gonsioroski:
“Luke was an inspiration in the way he lived his life and we look forward to soon having a scholarship in his name,” said Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who has worn Gonsioroski’s initials “LG” on his shoes during every game this season. “With this scholarship, Luke’s memory will forever have a part in our football program.”
Luke’s family made the trip from Montana and was honored during the game as well:

Luke’s mother spoke with Montana Sports after the ceremony and was incredibly grateful:
“It brings you to tears because Luke was so excited for the opportunity to come down here,” said Katina after the ceremony during the second quarter. “The fact that his legacy will live on to someone else – that some other walk-on can come get financial support because of Luke’s legacy – is amazing. We’re very grateful.”
I think, although I really don’t know, that the Gonsioroski family and Luke is incredibly important to Kliff Kingsbury and it wouldn’t surprise me that he’s the one that funded this endowed scholarship. And I don’t think that it’s been announced that Kingsbury is funding this endowed scholarship (again, I’m guessing here, nothing to confirm this) because he doesn’t want to appear to be grandstanding because nothing in this world can be completely good and pure.
