First conference win for this team this season, a team that didn’t have a conference win all of last year. Congrats to the entire team.

Texas Tech and Chris Beard hiring Sean Sutton is sorta a big deal and shouldn’t be overlooked. Sutton was the head coach at Oklahoma State for two years and an assistant at Oral Roberts for six years and I think he’s really well liked in Oklahoma overall and this is a strange move in that he’s not at Oklahoma State as an assistant. Effectively, Texas Tech has traded James Dickey (former Texas Tech head coach) for Sutton (former Oklahoma State head coach).

NewsOK’s Scott Wright writes bout Texas Tech IR Cameron Batson and almost receiving an offer from Oklahoma State, an offer that never came:
“OSU would’ve been a place I considered,” Batson said. “I always rooted for the home teams with OU and OSU. But neither of those guys offered, so I always wanted payback.
“We’re looking forward to a great atmosphere. We’re opening conference play with these guys, so we just want to come out with the win at the end of the day.”
A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about P Dominic Panazzolo and Panazzolo getting into the groove:
“Punting seven times against Houston, I felt really comfortable. There was no rush, and I could use everything to my abilities. I was able to launch a 53-yard punt, which is my longest for the year, so it was nice to get that out of the way and continue going forward to get better.”
Panazzolo’s not known for booming punts. He averaged 34.9 yards and 41.7 yards in his two years at Snow College in Utah. What the Red Raiders hope to achieve with him is to control and limit the return game. If he’s not rushed, Panazzolo will hold the ball for a few beats and often roll to his right before punting, usually end-over-end kicks that has return men scrambling to field the ball.
So far, it’s gotten the desired result. Opponents have a total of only 14 returns yards on his 13 punts.
