Sean Sutton is the son of the legendary coach Eddie Sutton from Oklahoma State University. In college he was a player for Kentucky, then transferred and was on the Oklahoma State team. He started his coaching career as an assistant for Ole Miss, then went to join his father’s staff as an assistant at Oklahoma State. Upon his father’s resignation as head coach Sean took over the head position at OSU. After 2 seasons he resigned, and was forced out after losing both seasons in the first round of the NIT tournament. Since 2010 he has been on the men’s basketball staff of Oral Roberts. His brother Scott Sutton was the head coach at Oral Roberts, and was recently fired. This opened up his path to Texas Tech.

According an article in the Tulsa World, here is what Sean had to say about him and Coach Beard’s relationship…
“I’ve known Chris for more than 20 years,” Sutton explained. “We’ve been friends for a long time, and I really respect him as a basketball man. I’m excited to be back in the Big 12 and ready to get started.”
Also, before anyone gets into his past about his 2010 arrest after trying to illegally obtain prescription painkillers. Maybe, read this article from OSU Sports Extra back in 2016 where it talks about his six years of sobriety.
I think Sean Sutton is a great addition to this staff, and we should be happy to have him along for our program to keep rising upwards in the Big 12. Wreck ’em Tech!!!
