Rivals’ Nick Krueger spoke with Valentine about his decision to commit to Texas Tech:
A couple of factors all played big roles in him coming to his decision but after his recent visit, he said that his opinion of the coaches was the most critical. He said his parents agreed with him that the campus and assistants were all what they were hoping for in an opportunity to play college football.
“I just like how the coaches handle themselves,” he said. “They’re all chill, they’re all cool, but I can see in them that they have that fire that when it comes down to it, they get after it. That’s how my coaches are at my school and I really like that feel that they gave.”
Valentine is really strong and moves opposing offensive linemen largely through strength and he is ridiculously active. Valentine plays what looks like the 3-technique defensive tackle and some defensive end, but he’s really disruptive as a tackle because he’s just quicker. Valentine really does have good speed for his size and he uses his legs pretty well. Valentine could do a better job of getting his hands off of himself, but that’s a pretty minor quibble. Valentine says he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds, which is really fast for someone his size.
