Texas Tech Hoops – 2017 Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament

According to the Basketball Hall of Fame website HoopHall.com, it looks like the Texas Tech men’s basketball team will be playing in the 2017 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament. The tourney will be played from November 10th – 19th with the following invitees: Boston College, Sacred Heart University, LaSalle University, Saint Peter’s University, University of Maine, University of South Alabama, Northwestern University, and our Red Raiders.

The schedule for Texas Tech will be as follows –

  • November 10th Texas Tech will play South Alabama in Lubbock
  • November 14th Texas Tech will play Maine in Lubbock
  • November 18th Texas Tech will play Boston College at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut
  • November 19th Texas Tech will play either LaSalle or Northwestern in the consolation/championship game at Mohegan Sun Arena

The South Alabama and Maine match-ups should lean towards our favor because of home court advantage. When we take off for Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut we will play a Boston College team that lost their last 15 games to end the season last year with a 9-23 overall record. I would hope that we would be able to show up on the road away from Lubbock and hand BC a loss to move onto the Championship game.

I imagine that Northwestern will be in the championship game and LaSalle will be in the consolation game. If the Red Raiders can make the championship game we will face a Wildcats squad that made the Big Dance last year with an overall 24-12 record. That last loss for NWU was to Gonzaga in the NCAA tourney by 6 points.

We will need to be prepared for all the games, and not let a silly loss in this tournament come to haunt us later in the season. I would be disappointed unless we got to play Northwestern and really see what our team is made of before conference play begins. Wreck ’em Tech!!!
