Texas Tech Baseball

Texas Tech moved up to #4 for D1Baseball and Baseball America at #4 overall.

FYI!

Texas Tech Basketball

Texas Tech added a preferred walk-on guard yesterday, Avery Benson (6-3/175) from Arkansas and he’s a left and he’s better than your typical walk-on I think. He’s got some skills.

Texas Tech Football

A little paintball fun!

Texas Tech added a defensive end to their 2017 class, Quentin Yontz (6-4/265). I’m going to do a profile on him, but ran out of time yesterday (i.e. passed out typing last night).

Additionally, according to LAJ’s Don Williams, Texas Tech also secured another offensive lineman graduate transfer, JaJuan Dulaney (6-3/297) from Maryland. Dulaney was originally from Powder Springs, Georgia. Dulaney played in 8 games last year and you can check out his high school Hudl page for highlights and whatnot. This is the second offensive line transfer for Texas Tech as graduate transfer Dwayne Johnson from Nebraska is headed to Lubbock as well.

ESPN’s Jake Trotter has his post-spring quarterback rankings and there is no way that Nic Shimonek is the 8th best quarterback in the Big 12. No way.

8. Texas Tech (8): The Red Raiders remain excited about Nic Shimonek, the former walk-on transfer from Iowa who is entering his fourth year in the program. Smimonek threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns in Tech’s spring game and had a solid spring overall.

Miscellaneous . . . .

  • College Football Talk notes that an early signing period in college football was approved and the early signing period is December 20th through December 22nd.
  • Land Grant Gauntlet took a vote to determine the preseason rankings and they’ve got Texas Tech 8th, but just barely behind Baylor. Take that ESPN.
  • FOX Sports’ Stewart Mandel writes about allowing freshman to play in the bowl games without worry of burning a redshirt.
