That’s 10 in a row as Texas Tech handled Texas Southern, 14-7 (Recap | Box Score). The Texas Tech offense hammered out 21 hits on the day, the top and the middle of the lineup had a terrific day as Josh Jung, Hunter Hargrove, Michael Berglund and Connor Beck all had three hits while Ryan Long was 2 for 2 before leaving with a minor injury (he popped his shoulder out and popped it back in and is okay). Hargrove’s 3 hits were all doubles, so that’s pretty impressive. John McMillon and Michael Berglund both homered, the second homer in two days for McMillon. There were 7 different pitchers, starting pitcher Caleb Freeman went 4 inning and gave up 4 runs and then the next 4 pitchers each went 1 inning until the 9th inning where Andrew Davis and McMillon both pitched the 9th.
The Red Raiders are in Norman this weekend to return to conference play against the Sooners.

We’re trying to meet at The Star before the game and you can read details here. Additionally, the official site released some traffic and parking information. Apparently there is going to be significant traffic because a section of the Tollway will be closed. I’m not familiar with that part of the DFW, so click on over as there’s a map of the closure.

CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval opines in the worst-case scenarios for every Big 12 team and here’s the bit on Texas Tech:
Still no life on defense: This wasn’t copied and pasted from last year. Promise. Yes, the Red Raiders have to replace quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, a transcendent talent, but Nic Shimonek is at least the front-runner. It’s the defense that remains a larger question mark. There are plenty of returning players, but that’s not automatically a good thing. Having continuity with defensive coordinator David Gibbs should help, right? Right?
- Ben & Skin had head coach Kliff Kingsbury on 105.3 The Fan to discuss the upcoming scrimmage in Frisco and touched on a handful of topics, including the type of quarterback he likes.
- RRS’s Drew Kohnle has the latest offers for Texas Tech, which is defensive line heavy right now. There’s a note there that the coaches will take 5 defensive linemen in the 2018 class.
- LandGrant Gauntlet’s Robert Spradley wonders what happens with a Patrick Mahomes-less Texas Tech offense.
- LandGrant Gauntlet’s Chase Wilder ranks the Big 12 wide receiving corps and has Texas Tech 2nd overall.
- CBS Sports latest mock draft has Mahomes going 6th overall to the Jets.
- Sports Illustrated has Mahomes going to Arizona at #13.
- Also via SI, Mahomes says that his dad is the poor man’s LaVar Ball.
- The Chron’s Aaron Wilson says that Patrick Mahomes has been scheduled for a league high 18 official visits and private workouts.
