The Texas Tech University System came out with an official response from the fire from Wednesday night:

The initial analysis of the site and incident conducted by Texas Tech University System Facilities Planning and Construction, TTU Fire Marshall’s office and the project contractor on Thursday morning confirmed minimal damage. The fire was caused by a piece of hot welding metal that fell from the upper roof of the structure on to palletized roofing deck materials on the lower roof below.

Safety watchmen immediately reacted by lowering their lift, but within one minute the pallet of material ignited.

β€œWe are pleased all safety protocols were followed and thankful there were no injuries as a result of the incident,” said Texas Tech University System Vice Chancellor for Facilities Planning and Construction Michael Molina. β€œWe would also like to thank Lubbock Fire and Rescue for their timely and professional response.”

Look out! Texas Tech and Abilene Christian will face off in 2024 and 2026, both games at Jones AT&T Stadium. The Wildcats and Red Raiders haven’t played each other since 1949. LAJ’s Don Williams has more details on this, including the amounts that Texas Tech will pay to play ACU (which is $375,000 for both games) and Williams also mentions that the contract with Ole Miss has not been signed because of some television issues.

Via NOLA, Patrick Mahomes said that Sean Payton liked how prepared Mahomes was:

“I know they loved how well-prepared I was. They could tell I had really studied and knew my stuff,” Mahomes told NFL.com. “And they liked the way the ball came out of my hand. They said every time they see me under center, I look better and better.”

According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Cal left tackle Aaron Cochran has a final three schools and they are Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Auburn. Cochran played with Brandon Jones last year and I’d think he would certainly help.
