Texas Tech Baseball
Texas Tech opened this 2-game midweek series with a 5-2 win over UNLV (Recap | Box Score). Freshman John Henry Gonzalez won his second game of the year (2-1) behind 6 innings, giving up just 5 hits, 1 run, walking 1 and striking out 2. Jacob Patterson pitched 2 frames, allowing 2 hits and a run and Jose Quezada earned the save (3) by pitching the 9th and didn’t allow a hit and struck out 2. Ryan Long at the top of the lineup continues to hit well, going 2-3 and scoring 2 runs. Josh Jung went 2-4 scoring a run. Michael Berglund went 2-4 with a run and Grant Little went 2-3 with an RBI. As an aside, Jung, Berglund and Little are all true freshman.

Red Raider Basketball
Just following along because Texas Tech has two signees playing for SPC as South Plains College defeated Panola, 88-84 (Recap | Box Score). Jordan Brangers had 18 points on 6 of 18 from the field and 4 of 12 from the three-point line. Not the smoothest night from Brangers. Josh Webster had 4 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks. SPC is in the final 8.

NFL.com’s Mike Mayock released his second set of positional rankings and he still has Patrick Mahomes as the 4th best quarterback and Davis Webb is 5th, behind DeShone Kizer, Deshaun Watson and Mitchell Trubisky. SB Nation’s Dan Kadar has Mahomes going 27th overall to Kansas City and for you Houston Texans fans, they have them taking Kizer.
