Red Raider Basketball
USA Today breaks down the recruitment of Trae Young and how he has come down to his final choices. Trae’s thoughts on Texas Tech is that the Red Raiders need more talent and you somewhat get the sense that Young is considering Texas Tech because of his dad, Ray, who played at Texas Tech from 1996 to 2000.
We’re getting to the commitment of Daniel Mading later, but also visiting this past weekend was Zhaire Smith and RRS’s Drew Kohnle talked to Smith about his unofficial visit last weekend:
“I just wanted to check out how the atmosphere was with Tech because it was Tech vs. Kansas, and I knew it would be a good game. It was a good game even though they lost by one point. It was a good game to go to. I had never been down to Lubbock, so I wanted to see how it is down there.”
Football
ESPN’s Max Olson ranks the Big 12 positional units and has the Texas Tech linebackers at 7th overall:
7. Texas Tech: Jordyn Brooks and D’Vonta Hinton both got throw right into the fire when they were true freshmen and have experience now. The Red Raiders will definitely rely on the contributions of juco transfers Dakota Allen and Tony Jones. Allen gets a second chance after being dismissed from the program last May and has a lot of potential.
I’m telling you right now that this is going to be too low. Heck yes.
- NFL’s Mike Mayock ranks the top five at each position and has Patrick Mahomes at #4 and Davis Webb at #5 for quarterbacks.
- Stack is a site that seems be promoting a lot of these NFL Draftees and has a bit of video on Mahomes talking about how he had no idea he had thrown for over 700 yards against Oklahoma.
