The Lady Raiders drop their first conference game to Texas and you can check out the box score where Recee Caldwell really was the only person that could hit much of anything last night, scoring 24 points on 10 of 20 from the floor. The team as a whole only made 34% of their shots while being out-rebounded by 20. That’s not going to do it. Up next is Oklahoma State on Sunday, January 1st.

The Gazette’s Dylan Montz writes about how Iowa State is attempting to bring some nastiness back to their Iowa State team:
“What we’re focusing on right now is just the grit, the nastiness, the toughness, rebounding, getting back in transition, guarding the ball and closing out the right way,” Prohm said. “And just trying to continue to make those habits.”
Some of the issues that have tripped Iowa State also have had to be solved in a quick manner, with Big 12 play starting earlier than it has in the past. The Cyclones have never started their conference schedule before Jan. 2 and get a much-improved Red Raiders (11-1) team as their first measuring stick.
LAJ’s Krista Pirtle previews today’s game and F Justin Gray talks how this team has grown since last year:
“Just from a maturity standpoint, I think we’ve grown tremendously as individuals and as players, especially Keenan (Evans) Norense (Odiase), Zach (Smith) and myself, you know being that core group back then,” Gray said. “We were young. It was our first Big 12 season, and we had the jitters. “Now, being juniors, making the tournament and doing some things last season, I think we have a lot of stuff under our belt and we can handle anything that comes our way.”

“Defensive end.”
What is a personal strength that you will bring to the table at Tech?
“I feel like my high motor and my use of hands will be beneficial to the team. I’ve learned a lot that I’m excited to bring to the team when I get there.”
