LAJ’s Don Williams writes about how Texas Tech pulled out that win over TCU and this was in the comments yesterday, but thought it was worth repeating:
But it played in the locker room, apparently. The Red Raiders felt like they owed the Frogs one.
“Especially with me being a senior,” Williams said. “I was here when we first won in triple overtime (56-53 in 2012). Yeah, it was personal. I kind of preached that to the defense: We owed them tonight.
“They put 80 on us last time. I don’t want to leave college with that. Everybody play hard for me; I’ll play hard for them.”
Aside from a sturdy defense, the Red Raiders made strides in another area. Kingsbury’s as much as called his team front-runners at times this season: When things are going good, everybody’s hunky dory. Fall behind, have bad stuff happen and they can’t handle it.

LAJ’s Nicholas Talbot wrote that blood, sweat and Beast Mode beat TCU:
Fast forward two weeks and Kingsbury and the Red Raiders did what they had to do to survive — to win.
They all but abandoned the passing game.
They crammed the ball right at TCU’s throat.
They played down and dirty defense.
There was some blood and a whole lot of sweat.
And the tears?
After Clayton Hatfield’s 37-yard field goal went through the uprights, don’t doubt there weren’t a few of those, too.
LAJ’s Don Williams has his post-game notebook, including about how Devin Lauderdale and Gary Moore didn’t travel with the team this weekend and it wasn’t injury related, how madison Akamnonu subbed in for an injured Justin Murphy late in the game, and losing the redshirt on Antoine Cox-Wesley.
LAJ’s Nicholas Talbot writes about Clayton Hatfield’s made double overtime field goal and about how Kris Williams blocked TCU’s double overtime attempt. I had no idea that Williams blocked that kick until yesterday afternoon, it was such a bang-bang sort of play and TCU I don’t think TCU replayed that on their scoreboard, however, if they did, I missed it because of all of the techno music blaring. In any event, here’s Williams:
“I was over the snapper and then I looped until the right side a gap and so I just came through,” Williams said. “(The lineman) tried to (block) me. I just kind of got skinny, swam over.
“I was like, ‘I know that field goals’ not going in. He hadn’t had enough power all day. I mean, he’d been missing them all day. So, now you change up the trajectory, and I knew he was going to miss that one.”
