Kliff Kingsbury: I think so, we’ve had some physical practices, I know they were embarrassed, hopefully we take advantage of on Saturday . . . just for a Monday, changed some things up, really practiced and had physical periods and a training camp type of atmosphere . . . they do such a good job of protecting the football, Lincoln really mixes in his screen game really well, great running backs and tight ends, dynamic receivers, does a great job of play action stuff, they are very efficient and protect the football . . . they have a bunch of good running backs, Joe Mixon is as good as anyone in the country, they can always plug someone in and be effective . . . luckily, there are guys that have playing time, they will gel okay, I think it’s been solid so far . . . continue to get better, trust your technique and not go rogue when it gets tough, has to trust your fundamentals . . . I think we’ll probably finalize that tomorrow, we’ve mixed and matched a bit, we feel comfortable with Baylen Brown anywhere and we’ll fit in the next best guy after that . . . Patrick Mahomes has been a little limited, getting some work in and hopefully it translates to the game, hopefully this helps . . . Derrick Willies and Dylan Cantrell are both working out, it will be a game time decision for both of those guys with Dylan, if we can protect his hand, he’ll play . . . Keenon Ward hasn’t practiced . . . Kisean Allen practiced today . . . Rick Dykes comes by often and gets his football fill, I played for him . . . Da’Leon Ward runs tough and will continue to get better, hope he gets more touches . . . Malik Jenkins is a senior and learned all three linebacker positions, he’s gotten better each year and really proud of his development . . .
LAJ’s Don Williams has his football notebook from yesterday’s media scrum that summarizes the non-transcript above.
RRS’s Will McKay also summarizes, but has additional quotes from Jah’Shawn Johnson, Talor Nunez, Malik Jenkins and Brieden Fehoko (all four defensive guys). Lots of talk about staying in your gaps and doing your job and not trying to do too much. Here’s a bit from Jenkins:
“Just hold each other more accountable, have way more effort when running to the ball. We’ve just got to hold each other more accountable and work harder. You might be there, but you can always do more. If we just stay in our gaps and do our jobs, we’re going to improve a lot more if we just go out there and do our jobs and tackle.”
“I feel like we all have to respond. We knew we messed up Saturday, and we know that wasn’t the standard as a team,” he said. “So, we’re out there playing physical. We went out here again (today) physical, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to do it again tomorrow. We’re ready for it. We’re just going to be ready for Saturday, cause we know OU is not gonna bow down. It’s not gonna get any easier, so we’re ready for it.”
