- Whether he’s sidearming it 50 yards off of the wrong foot, converting a 1st & 20 with his feet, or delivering lasers across the middle, Patrick Mahomes is a force. His awareness and play fake ability makes it almost unfair, and thanks to his play, Texas Tech never punted tonight and came away with points on 9 of 10 drives.
- Kingsbury committed to the running game tonight, and Demarcus Felton showed him just how effective that can be with some hard running between the tackles and a couple of touchdowns. There were a few stretches in the second half where Felton carried the ball 3 or 4 times in a row. I really enjoyed watching Felton run and feel like he is just getting started.
- Jonathan Giles came up big, almost bigger than big, averaging 31 yards on 6 catches. He was able to showcase his speed and his hands in traffic and really cause problems for the LaTech defense.
- The defense played, and as I was typing this, allowed another touchdown so fast that I had to change the score in the heading. Those three defensive three-and-outs may have been what kept Tech in the game. Craft ran for over 100 yards in the first half and LaTech ended up with 261 on the ground. Pass defense wasn’t any better.
- Tech ended up with 10 penalties tonight, and if I had to guess, at least 3 or 4 of them were holding calls on wide receivers. If Pat Mahomes wasn’t at the helm, a lot of these would’ve been drive killers.
