Good on the volleyball team for earning two wins yesterday, that’s three in a row for Tom Graystone’s team:

Tom Stone and the soccer team suffered one of the worst losses that I can recall, losing 4-0 to California at home. I have a feeling that this is one of those games where the freshman learned what it was like playing against a big-time opponent.

Football
Lots of stuff from the LAJ, so I’ll link to it and let you peruse as you see fit. LAJ’s Krista Pirtle writes that SFA wants to get the Texas Tech offense off the field. LAJ’s Don Williams has three game day quick hits, including the note that head coach Kliff Kingsbury refused interview requests for all three of the starting cornerbacks, D.J. Polite-Bray, Theirry Nguema, and Paul Banks III. LAJ’s Don Williams writes about the rapid rize of IR Jonathan Giles, tracking his father who is the video coordinator at Texas Southern and also played for Houston back in the 70’s. LAJ’s Nicholas Talbot has a Q&A with DT Ondre Pipkins.
RRS’s Will McKay has a Q&A with Ondre Pipkins as well and this is worth quoting:
Q: What do you think are the biggest markers or indications of, like you said, the program heading in the right direction?
“Coach Whitt. I can’t front. Granted, I’d definitely like to say thank you to the last staff, too. All those guys helped me get acclimated, so thank you to them. But, just with Coach Whitt, how he’s come in and put his foot down and said, ‘Hey, this is how it’s going to be.’ If you don’t like it, then you don’t need to be a part of this group. You know what I mean? You add some leaders to the team such as Luke Stice and myself to the mix, and it’s pretty black and white with us. So, we get after the young guys and let them know that this will be tolerated, but that won’t be tolerated. So, that’s just to touch on Coach Whitt and how it’s changed. That’s the stamp right there. It’s Coach Rusty Whitt.”
Forgot to post these the other day, but some game picks to get to. The Big 12 Blog Bros all picked Texas Tech. Football Study Hall’s Bill Connelly has his S&P+ picks for the week and the numbers like Texas Tech by 26 or so as well as the F/+. DMN’s Brandon Soliz has his prediction for the game.
Midland Reporter-Telegram’s Oscar LeRoy writes about Talor Nunez, former player at Midland Lee and his journey to Texas Tech.
So, Kliff Kingsbury went into coaching because he didn’t want to pay his parking tickets:
Asked Kliff Kingsbury the most interesting about him that’s never been publicized. He volunteered this: pic.twitter.com/5XRc0GyWZy
