RRS’s Drew Kohnle has a lengthy interview with Rayford Young, the father of 5-star point guard Trae Young. I don’t know how much chance to really give Chris Beard on landing Young, but it’s not because Beard & Co. are afraid of the competition and it isn’t for lack of trying. LGG’s Brady Trantham writes about how Patrick Mahomes is looking to not just be the best quarterback in Texas, but in the Big 12 as well.
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach predicts the Power Five conferences, thinks Texas Tech will finish 5th overall and is the team most likely to rise and also thinks that Patrick Mahomes will throw 50 touchdowns.

FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman has 10 bold predictions for the year and thinks that all of Kingsbury’s former quarterbacks will shine (that list includes Baker Mayfield, Davis Webb, Matt Davis and Patrick Mahomes) . . . RRS’s Aaron Dickens has a lengthy notebook sort of post, taking a look at preseason camp among other things . . . FWST’s Carlos Mendez has a preview of Texas Tech for the Startlegram . . .
