Re-Design

More Fresh. More Clean. The official site has undergone a re-design for the website, much like how a lot of sites are going, which is a big header photo and lots of white space, much like here at Staking the Plains and other sites. The article mentions that it is more mobile friendly, but I haven’t had time to test that out.

Track & Field

Lady Raider Basketball

Whitaker Adds DeGrate. Former 4-star center Erin DeGrate (6’4″) has decided to transfer to Texas Tech. She’ll sit out a year before being eligible next year.

Basketball

Beard Adds Walk-On. Thomas Brandsma, a walk-on who followed Chris Beard from McMurry, to San Angelo, to Little Rock is walking on at Texas Tech. Got a feeling that he’ll be a future coach.

Football

Most Indispensible. ESPN’s Brandon Chatmon writes about Texas Tech’s most indispensible player, that player than none other Patrick Mahomes:

With Mahomes as the centerpiece of the offense, Texas Tech finished in the top 10 nationally in points per drive (2.98, seventh), yards per play (6.95, eighth) and third down conversion rate (51.7 percent, first).

There’s a good chance Mahomes is even better as a junior. He skipped baseball to focus on football during the spring with an eye on sparking the Red Raiders into Big 12 championship contention. While he excels as a rusher and passer, Mahomes can improve by limiting his mental mistakes and cutting his interception total below double digits after throwing 15 as a sophomore.

Miscellaneous. Via Land Grant Gauntlet’s Chris Ross, All-Big 12 Oklahoma Sooner cornerback Jordan Thomas was arrested for interference with a police office, public intoxication and assault and battery . . . also from the Sooners, via CBS Sports Tom Fornelli, Cale Gundy subtweeted a recruit that didn’t commit to the Sooners on Wednesday (if you don’t know what “subtweet” means, then there’s an explanation for you) . . . ESPN’s Chatmon also predicts week 4 and Texas Tech doesn’t play that week . . . Heartland College Sports has an audio interview with current North Texas OC and quarterback coach, Graham Harrell
