I can’t think of another quarterback (and yes, nothing is signed, sealed and delivered until February) that can juke quite the way that Xavier Martin can make a defender fall out of his shoes. It’s really quite amazing how a quarterback can be helped so much in the passing game when the quarterback is also a threat to run and you have to account for that as a defense. Even if the quarterback is a marginal passer. Having watched one of Steele’s playoff games, I’d like to see more from Martin as a passer. Granted, he was pretty injured during that game, so I really didn’t get to see the full compliment of what Martin could do; however, that raises the thought that dual-threat quarterbacks like Duffey and Martin can get hurt easier because of their ability to run, they’re out of the pocket more.
This year is going to be an interesting year for Martin and I really am excited to see how he progresses. He’s already received a 4th star and he could be invited to the Elite 11 at some point.
