According to Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Mark Anderson, that UNLV head coach Chris Beard would talk to Texas Tech about the open coaching position as a result of Tubby Smith taking the Memphis position.

Beard spent a handful of years at Texas Tech, 10 in fact, as the top assistant to Bob Knight and has a deep connection with Texas Tech and had this to say about Texas Tech and Lubbock when Little Rock traveled to Texas Tech this year:
“People ask me all the time where I’m from,” Beard said. “I moved around a lot as a kid and I’ve coached a lot of different places, but Lubbock’s the longest I’ve ever lived somewhere, 10 years. And two of my three daughters were born here.
“It was a little bit emotional. I’d be lying if I said anything different.”
As of tonight, Anderson reported a private plane arriving in Las Vegas and it would make sense that Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt is on that plane to discuss with Beard sometime tomorrow about the vacant coaching position.
According to Flight Aware, flight from Lubbock to Henderson Executive Airport landed about 10 minutes ago. #UNLVmbb #RJnow
