DuPont’s 1-5. DMN’s Mike DuPont has his top 1 through 5 players, ending with QB Patrick Mahomes (like I would). I think my list would look much different than DuPont’s list and may just have to do that to see how different it is. Here’s person #3:
3. Jah’Shawn Johnson / sophomore / defensive back
Jah’Shawn Johnson’s performance last season put the Big 12 on alert that Texas Tech can also groom talent on the defensive side of the ball. The redshirt freshman earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors in his first season as a starter and often set a physical tone for the Red Raiders defensively. Though Johnson was ejected from a game last season, his effort is something defensive coordinator David Gibbs has praised. He’ll have a firm grasp on one of the safety spots entering spring ball after leading all defensive backs with 85 tackles last season, recording a pair of interceptions and recovering four fumbles.
