SI’s Thayer Evans reports that Texas Tech is set to hire Louisiana Tech safeties coach Kark Scott to coach cornerbacks for Texas Tech.
Scott coached only one year at Louisiana Tech, but prior to that, Scott was the defensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana, where that team was 11th in turnovers gained, 5th in red zone defense and 8th in scoring defense. Scott was an assistant at Southeastern Louisiana for two years prior to being the defensive coordinator and even coached Cquilin Hubert, a former Texas Tech player.
Prior to that, Scott was at Tusculum and Delta State University. I did not know that Tusculum was a real place, but it is a small college in Greenville, Tennessee.
Scott is originally from Houston and played his college ball at McMurry University in Abilene.
That’s about all I got. I’ve tried to search for a connection, but I don’t really have anything other than Jabbar Juluke recommending Scott, but when Kliff Kingsbury hired John Scott, there was a connection Kingsbury had made at a coaching convention. This might be Texas Tech banking on a young coach with potential and being from Houston, could be looking to keep a presence there. Louisiana Tech didn’t have terrific defensive numbers, 100th in pass defense. They had 13 interceptions and 15 forced fumbles, which is pretty good.
We probably won’t hear anyone ask Kingsbury about some of the new hires until spring practice starts in early March.
