Miscellaneous

No Imperative. Via AAS, Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said this about Big 12 expansion:

“I think there are those who have come to the conclusion that we do need to get bigger. There are those who may feel otherwise,” Bowlsby said during a question-and-answer session with University of Texas students on Tuesday.

“We don’t have any imperative for getting larger,” he said. “We haven’t really spent any time thinking about who the candidates are, if there are any candidates. But there has been media speculation about it. It doesn’t take any genius to look around and see where there may be prospects.”

I’ll be honest. I’ve been stuck on the fact that Bowlsby used the word “imperative” in a way that I’ve never seen done before and I can’t get past it. NewsOK’s Berry Tramel jumped on the question as to whether or not Arizona and Arizona State would be interested in the Big 12 and my guess is “no”. Don’t get me wrong. I’d love it if they did, but that would seem unlikely.

Screaming Won’t Help. LAJ’s Nicholas Talbot writes that Lady Raiders’ head coach Candi Whitaker knows that screaming and yelling won’t help Texas Tech make shots:

“You can’t scream at people to make shots. If it was that easy we would scream every day,” Whitaker said. “I think I said something like there is no way you can ever shoot that poorly again.

“It is impossible. So, play basketball, shoot it when you’re open and be confident in the time you put in the gym.”

Football

Clark Making Waves. Via CBS Sports, Texas Tech left tackle Le’Raven Clark is making waves in Mobile, Alabama, as he prepares for the Senior Bowl:

* After turning heads by measuring in with the longest arms of any player invited to the 2016 Senior Bowl, Texas Tech left tackle Le’Raven Clark also showed surprisingly nimble feet, showing enough agility to block most edge rushers (including Spence, at times) and getting to the second level as a run blocker. Given how relatively rarely Clark was asked to run block in Tech’s pass-happy spread offense, he can help his NFL stock this week by continuing to impress in this area, even if he lacks the power as a drive blocker scouts would prefer.

Lehnoff on Dave Campbell’s. Scott Lehnoff is the head coach at Steele, and talks a bit about Antoine Cox-Wesley, Bryson Denley and Xavier Martin, plus his own Steele team.

Miscellaneous. Via College Football Talk, a trainer for Texas A&M was fired after being on the job for 31 years and testified that he was forced by the coaching staff to put kids back out on the field before they were fully healed . . .

Recruiting Update.

Ivory Jackson is playing in a senior game, the International Bowl where he’s obviously playing for Team USA.

Ethan Davidson is the friend of Jordyn Brooks, current Texas Tech commit. Davidson might be a preferred walk-on type (I think).
