Graystone Named Head Coach.

I was wondering when this was going to happen and who it would be. Yesterday, Texas Tech tabbed Tony Graystone, the head coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as the head coach. Graystone has won wherever he’s gone, including a 91-44 record at TAMU-CC and prior to that was at West Texas A&M and had a record of 315-61.

“This is a very special day for me and my family,” Graystone said. “Lubbock is definitely home for us and there’s no place we’d rather be than at Texas Tech. I am looking forward to meeting the team and getting started on the court as soon as possible. We all know the challenges ahead of us to improve the program and take positive steps in the Big 12. But I know I’m starting with a group of talented, committed players and together we will make it happen.”

Men’s Basketball

Odiase Out 6 Weeks. It appears that Norense Odiase won’t have to have surgery but he will be out 6 weeks:

This likely puts Odiase out for the rest of the year, but not having to have surgery is a good thing I think.

Smith Becoming a Star.

Football

This is Going to Be Fun.

How About That.

Recruiting Reviews Announced. Via the official site, Texas Tech will hold their recruiting reviews in Houston on National Signing Day, February 3rd, Dallas on February 4th and Midland on February 15th. Go get your tickets.

Texas Tech and the Louisiana Tech Game. I thought this was interesting, via Shrevport Times, Louisiana Tech was scheduled to play Texas A&M in 2016 on September 10th, but Texas Tech bought out that game for $500,000 (I’m guessing that this money is paid to La.Tech?) and then paid $800,000 for the game:

The Sept. 10 date was originally scheduled for a return game to Texas A&M, but Tech bought out the contract for $500,000 and instead scheduled Texas Tech for a $800,000 game guarantee. Tech would have received $200,000 from Texas A&M, so the Bulldogs net an additional $100,000.

Haverty to Defensive Coordinator at Lamar. LAJ’s Don Williams reports that Trey Haverty will be the defensive coordinator at Lamar this fall and credits Baylor DC Phil Bennett for helping him get the gig. We’re rooting for you.

Miscellaneous. WreckEm 24/7 has their weekly recruiting show with Carlos Silva, Jr. and Michael LaBarre and they mention a new name, WR/DB Douglas Coleman (6-2/175) where you can watch his Hudl video here, but he looks to have a bit of speed . . . ESPN’s Brandon Chatmon and ESPN are running through the underrated players for each team and picked Alfredo Morales for Texas Tech . . . ESPN’s Chatmon also has the top Big 12 players 6 through 10 and Jakeem Grant makes #9 . . . via the DMN, Le’Raven Clark will play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl on January 30th . . .
