Well, there’s just too much to get to this morning without a Morning Stake. Let’s do this.
Red Raider Basketball
Clergeot Signs. Via the official site, Texas Tech has officially signed Keon Clergeot to a national letter of intent and head coach Tubby Smith said that Clergeot bring energy to the program:
“Keon is an outstanding competitor who is going to bring a lot of energy to our program,” Smith said. “He has a relentless attitude toward playing the game. Keon is a very skilled offensive player and plays with a great deal of passion on the defensive end. He’s a team player that can play the point guard and shooting guard positions. More importantly, Keon is an exceptional person. He really hit it off with our players during his recruiting visit. Keon is a great fit for our program, and we’re very excited he chose to become a Red Raider.”
Lady Raider Basketball
Whitaker Signs Two. Via the official site, Candi Whitaker and the Lady Raider program signed two players, Brittany Brewer (6’4″) and Grayson Bright (5’11”). Brewer is the #97 player in the nation and #14 post-player in the nation, while Bright is the #73 guard in the nation. Here’s Whitaker on both players:
“Brittany is an outstanding young lady,” Whitaker said. “She is exactly what we look for in a Lady Raider. She brings a high-level skill set, defensive presence and athleticism to our team. Her game and strengths translate well to the collegiate level. We could not be happier to have the opportunity to coach Brittany for the next four years.”
Brewer and Bright will join the Lady Raiders for the 2016-17 season along with three high-profile transfers who were signed earlier this year and are on campus, in McDonald’s All-American Recee’ Caldwell, who came to Lubbock from UCLA, Jada Terry, an imposing post player who transferred in from Texas A&M and Larryn Brooks, who was an All-Big 10 performer while becoming the first Indiana freshman to score 500 points in a season.
“Grayson brings size, athleticism and skill to the wing position,” Whitaker said. “The energy and passion she plays with make her special. She takes great pride in playing defense and helping her team win. We are ecstatic that she decided to join the Lady Raider family. You add her and Brittany to Recee’ [Caldwell], Jada [Terry] and Larryn [Brooks] who become eligible next year and you have five newcomers who create an instant impact.”
Baseball
Red Team Takes Red & Black Series. Via the official site, the Red Team takes game five of the Red & Black Series, 6-3. There’s a lot going on here and I haven’t been able to follow this as closely as I’d like. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of the newcomers on the team, especially the pitchers. In fact, I asked MikeTTU about a week or so ago as to who he would pick as the weekend starters and there are going to be options.
