RELATED: 2016 DE Austin Deshay Commits to Texas Tech
Scouting Report: Before we get to the football part, I wanted to mention that Deshay averaged 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game last year and made his district’s second team last year. So there’s some athleticism there that isn’t just on the football field.
As far as his play on the football field, as a defensive end, Deshay does a really nice job of getting around the tackle and attacking. He has a tendency to allow the tackle to get his hands on him, which will be problematic in college, but for now he’s able to get away with it. Deshay pretty much abuses the same right tackle for an entire game in his highlights. Still, you love Deshay’s ability to push opposing tackles and that’s a pretty good indication of some upper body strength. Not only that, but Deshay looks well-rounded in terms of his body-type, looks like he could still add some weight with his frame. I also love the way that he runs down plays, continually, he’s got a terrific motor.
