Baseball

Gutierrez 2nd Team All-Midwest Region. Congrats to first baseman Eric Gutierrez who was named to the All-Midwest Region Second Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association. I really want Gutierrez to discover that home run touch next year that he had his sophomore year.

Track and Field

Carson Earns Runner Up. Huge congrats to Hannah Carson who finished runner-up in the javelin in NCAA Outdoor Championship, breaking her own record by four feet. Head coach Wes Kittley on Carson:

“We were so close to having a national champion today,” Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. “However, you don’t get many runner-up finishes in this business either. Hannah was incredible today. This was her best series of the season by far, and she had a huge personal best throw, too. You can’t ask for anything else out of her. She had a phenomenal performance.

Men’s 4×400 Falters. From LAJ’s Don Williams, we find out that the men’s 4×400 meter relay faltered as C.J. Jones went down with a leg cramp and Texas Tech didn’t finish the race.

Tennis

Previewing 2016. Nice preview of what the men’s tennis should look like in 2016, inlcuding Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas as well as Alex Sendegeya, Connor Curry and Jolan Cailleau.

Football

Eric Ward Talks NFL and Coaching at Rider. Former Red Raider footballer Eric Ward talked with TechTalk on Double T 104.3 and you get to hear Ward talk about his stint in the NFL, returning to Wichita Rider to coach and recent Texas Tech commit T.J. Vasher. This description really doesn’t do this justice because it is pretty powerful stuff. Ward talks about how he left his chance with the Bengals because he had things to take care of at home and how family comes first and how he’s trying to mentor Vasher, or any young person, which is to just tell him what’s happened to Ward. Ward also talks about his legacy at Texas Tech, having a very tough life growing up. It’s 20+ minutes of your day that I can promise you won’t regret.

Breakout Player. DMN’s Tommy Magelssen writes about the top candidates to be a breakout player and includes Justin Murphy, Ian Sadler, Dylan Cantrell, Mike Mitchell and Patrick Mahomes. The easy ones here are Mahomes and Mitchell because I think they’ll play the most.

This is actually something that I’ve been thinking, which is the idea that there’s actually a very veteran team, with lots of seniors, but there’s also some really key young players that are part of a big foundation. All of those players, other than Cantrell, they’re all sophomores, and this doesn’t even consider the guys in the secondary, like Tevin Madison and Nigel Bethel, II.

Looking Over Your Shoulder. The ESPN Blog Bros get together to discuss the quarterback situations in the Big 12 and thinks taht whoeve wins Texas Tech’s quaterback competition will need to look over their shoulder all year.

Duffey Talks Elite 11. Scout has ainterview with Texas Tech commit Jett Duffey and he talks about why he wants to come to Texas Tech, says that Texas Tech is one of the top 12 physical therapy in the nation, and he also talks about recruiting for Texas Tech, talks about T.J. Vasher’s commitment.

Miscellaneous. RaiderPower has a quick Q&A with DE/OLB Lonzell Gilmore . . .
